This is the life
for me
Celebrating women. Inspiring careers. Opening pathways into the trades.
She didn't know this door was open.
A young Tasmanian woman searching for something that fits. A first step into an apprenticeship. A glimpse of what a life in the trades can really offer. Inspired by real stories, made right here in Tasmania.
A song, not an ad.
Young women don't find their future in a job ad. They find it in music, in stories, on their phones. So instead of a campaign, we made something worth sharing — an original song and short film that lets a young woman see herself in the trades and think, this is the life for me.
For years the industry has asked young women to be brave enough to walk onto our sites. We think we've had it the wrong way round.
“The question isn't whether she's ready for the trades. It's whether the trades are ready for her.”
Sam Kiely, Director, Kiely Plumbing
Women make up as little as 3% of the workforce in some skilled trades.
Take The Daughter Test.
Would you want your daughter working on your sites, in your crew, in your culture? Three questions. Answer them honestly.
Would my daughter be safe here?
Would she be respected here?
Would she be backed here to build a career?
If the answer to any of them is no, that's the work.
“I've got daughters and a young son. I want my girls to know every door is open to them — including the one into the trades. And I want my boy to grow up to be the kind of man who holds that door open, not the kind who stands in it.”
Sam Kiely · Dad, third-generation plumber & Director of Kiely Plumbing
